Haitian bus rides. There is nothing like it. Literally, nothing.
They're full of twists and turns, near death experiences, so many pot holes and bumps in the road that you feel like you're constantly bouncing, unexpected stops to meet new friends, and honking. Lots and lots of honking.
After our eighth hour (out of a 13 hour bus ride across the country) of bouncing around on our bus, Jesus slapped me in the face.
I was talking to my friend Jacob on the bus after probably our 60th scare of us driving off a cliff. We talked about how the ride was wayyyy scarier for us at the back of the bus than it is for the people at the front. At the front of the bus you can see where you're going- at the back you just have to sit back, (try to) relax and trust the driver.
Trust the driver.
Just trust the Driver.
JESUS SLAP.
How often in my own life do I not trust the Driver? (The "Driver" being Jesus.) How often do I want to jump out of my seat at the back of the bus and try to take the wheel thinking that I know how to steer my own life better than the Driver himself?
Friends, Jesus desires for us to trust Him being the Driver of our lives. Just trust Him.
Like my Haitian bus ride, Jesus knows there are going be bumps in the roads of our lives. Jesus knows that there will be unexpected turns and stops that will keep us guessing when (or if) we will ever continue moving forward. Jesus knows there will be more than one loud honk to wake us up from going through the motions.
Jesus knows.
He loves us.
He cherishes us.
He knows us.
He wants to prosper us.
Let's let our Driver guide us in the Way we should go.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
-Proverbs 3:5-6
